The Best-preserved Section of the Great Wall

There’s a saying that “Who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man”. And when you arrive in the Great Wall, we’ll say that “Who has never been able to climb up to the Badaling is not a true man”. Let’s look at the basic travel information of Badaling together!

Badaling – Best-Preserved Section of the Great Wall

As the best-preserved section of the Great Wall, Badaling is also the most representative part.  Up to 1,015 meters above sea level, it’s around 80 kilometers northwest of urban Beijing city.  The portion of the wall running through the site built in 1504 during the Ming Dynasty, along with a military outpost reflecting the location’s strategic importance.

However, only 2.3 miles (3.74 kilometers) and 19 watchtowers have restored and opened to visitors. Interestingly, a number of holes have been drilled in the wall to shoot arrows and to watch enemies. Historically, Badaling has witnessed many significant events in history. For example, Yuan Taizu, the first emperor of Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368 AD) conquered it, took control over Beijing, then the whole China, and began the Yuan Dynasty.

Above all, the Great Wall is a must for a China tour. And Badaling is the most popular part of the Great Wall, however it would be very crowded if you do not pick the right time. The other section of the Great Wall would be Juyong Pass of Great Wall or the Mutianyu Great Wall.
